HIST 386: American Legal History

Professor Logan – Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 10:00-10:50am

Explore the legal history of the United States from before the Constitution through the New Deal to the present. We will think about how the law affects history and history affects the law by focusing on the narratives and experiences of transported convicts, witnesses in the Salem Witch trials, Supreme Court justices, abolitionists, suffragettes, grade-school children, Presidents and more. By the end of this course, students will have the skills to analyze case law and provide their own conclusions about the relationship amongst history, law and culture.
