Fund for the Public Interest

The Fund for the Public Interest’s Los Angeles office is a national non-profit that runs grassroots campaigns for the nation’s top progressive organizations including Environment California, CALPIRG , Fair Share , and the Human Rights Campaign .

Currently, we’re working with CALPIRG on a campaign to require labeling of genetically modified foods. More than 60 countries require labeling of GMOs so that their citizens can make healthy, responsible and informed choices, but Americans are currently left in the dark. So CALPIRG is working to require GMO labels on food, the same way we list nutrition information. We know the public overwhelmingly supports this, but big ag companies like Monsanto are spending millions to stop something as simple as labeling laws. Monsanto and Dow spent $45 million to defeat Proposition 37, a California GMO labeling initiative, just last year. Passing a GMO labeling bill through the state legislature will set the precedent needed to pass a national labeling law giving all Americans the right to know what’s in the food that they buy. We’re currently hiring undergraduate students for part time jobs to work on this important campaign!

Throughout the year we’ll be working on several progressive campaigns, including a campaign to ban fracking in CA.

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit organization that works to build support for progressive organizations across the country. We run campaigns for Environment America, USPIRG, Fair Share, and the Human Rights Campaign. This year we are running offices in over 35 cities, mobilizing public support, and meeting with our elected officials to help win environmental and social justice campaigns.

This last year our staff helped to protect the Pacific by banning single use plastic grocery bags in over 80 cities across the state of California. We’ve also helped repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and made school lunches safer by increasing food safety standards.

Currently, we have paid positions open for campaign staff out of our LA office in Koreatown and in our 35 offices across the country. We are looking for candidates who work hard, communicate well, and are dedicated to working towards positive environmental and social change. This is a great opportunity to have a big impact on issues that matter, and gain meaningful experience in grassroots organizing.

As a member of our staff, you will fundraise, build membership for our partner groups, educate and activate citizens on pressing issues, and build the grassroots pressure it takes to win. You will also have the opportunity to organize press conferences and build coalitions with other non-profit organizations. While on staff you will learn how to effectively generate public support, build upon your understanding of the political process, and create positive social change.

You can get involved by applying online or by calling our office at 213-251-8630. And if you won’t be in LA for the holidays, be sure to check out our other offices across the country!

Thanks for your consideration!
