Young Scientist Program – Program Design Assistant

USC Young Scientists Program is looking for a part time 10 hour/week design assistant. We need help with preparation of documents for project plans, preparation of reports, help with ordering materials, site visits, help with preparation of design briefs, meetings with fabricators, engineers and architects. Help at 2 educator enrichment workshops and other assigned duties. The assistant also helps with installation of projects and meeting with schools.
This position requires:
• An interest in the field of education and science.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong organization skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
• A self-starter, able to take initiative and work independently.
• 10 hours per week available to dedicate to the position (pay rate is $10/hour).
• Attendance at design meetings
• Deadline to apply: January 15, 2013.
Job responsibilities include:
• Help preparing drawings, schematics, and diagrams and evaluating system components,
• Helping to organize materials, and suppliers and safety standards; and helping with installations.
• Helps to coordinate actions; and action items; contributing information to team meetings and reports.
• Help to improve cost standards by preparing cost-benefit analyses; tracking and reporting expenses.
• Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipts.
• Help prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data
• Attendance at design meetings
• Attendance at two workshops – Feb 19 and March 12

AdvanceLab is a company with our headquarter in Los Angeles, California and with some foreign subsidiary offices that specializes in manufacturing laboratory testing equipment for the Plastic Bottle, Aluminum Can, Food, Beverage, Brewery, Pharmaceutical Industry. The main scope of our business is in quality control instruments used in Quality Control labs of companies such as Coke, Pepsi, breweries etc. We are currently trying to establish ourselves in South American countries that includes strategically important countries such as Brazil, Argentina etc. where they have
well developed economies.

We would like to source smart, young and motivated individuals that speak the local language in their respective home countries, and preferably someone who has a good business commercial sense about trade and businesses of their homeland. Students who are looking to obtain local US work experience, getting intern experience in commerce and sales and marketing exposures are welcome
to contact us for interview. Our present priority and preference would be someone from Brazil that speaks their local dialect, Portuguese.

Job Requirements: Sales & Marketing/Customer Service
- Regular administrative duties as needed.
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good communication, professional demeanor, and strong interpersonal skills are desirable for being able to contact possible customers, answering phones, etc.
- We are looking for a fluent Portuguese speaker who will be contacting customers from Brazil frequently.
- Student will also be responsible for becoming familiarized with our products, as well as the Bottle and Can etc. industry in a way which would allow for them to hold a knowledgeable conversation with Quality Control representatives of can and bottle manufacturers as well as beverage & brewery companies. (Training will be provided)

Research experience in behavioral genetics

We are looking for extremely responsible undergraduates who are excited about science to participate in a large-scale research project on fruit fly learning behavior. The project focuses on understanding the genes and brain regions that cause differences in learning ability in natural fly populations. Students are responsible for maintaining and rearing flies; conducting experiments; general lab tasks; and participating in weekly meetings where we discuss papers from the primary literature. The position is unpaid but could lead to funding opportunities and/or research credit in the future.
